Traveling Tool Kit: Tool Box
Travel Tool Kit

This tool box may look deliberately planned, but really it "evolved" as I put it together. I never laid out where the tools would go. Instead, I made four trays or "drawers" of different depths, sorted the tools that would fit the appropriate drawers, and started gluing in the little internal dividers, working from the corners. That's why you'll see an odd shaped or "utility" compartment somewhere in each drawer.

I have all four trays secured together with 3/16" steel rods that thread into "T-nuts" countersunk into the bottom. I countersunk the brass end of each rod into to the lid, and made the cross piece of each rod to fit my white string crank for easy disassembly.

The little white line inlaid near the corner helps me get the drawers aligned when I reassemble the box.
